Personal profile

Research Interests

My work primarily focuses on the inflammatory response to exercise and injury in equine athletes across a variety of disciplines, and includes determining whether messenger RNA (mRNA) expression can be used to predict impending injury in racehorses.  A newly emerging area of research for us is the effect of various anti-inflammatory treatments on the mRNA response to inflammation and how that might impact our work with equine athletes.  I also have an interest in developing diagnostics for various infectious diseases based on mRNA expression analysis and/or serum antibody detection.  Previously, my work has included research on Lawsonia intracellularis, a bacterial disease of young horses and the cause of equine proliferative enteropathy, as well as Rhodococcus equi
