    Biography

    Professor Goan is a specialist in twentieth century US history, with specific interests in gender, Appalachia/Kentucky, and medical history.  Her first book  Mary Breckinridge: The Frontier Nursing Service and Rural Health in Appalachia (University of North Carolina Press), was published in 2008.  The University Press of Kentucky published her second book, A Simple Justice: Kentucky Women Fight for the Vote, in 2020.  She is currently working with the Documenting Racial Violence in Kentucky project.  She serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies for the History Department.
