Personal profile

Research Interests

I have administrative responsibility for the Kentucky Tobacco Research & Development Center at the University of Kentucky. In this role, I manage the research staff and oversee a research budget of approximately $3 million.

The mission of the Kentucky Tobacco Research & Development Center is to explore new uses for tobacco using biotechnology, explore plants as sources of novel natural products and to conduct research that may influence the production and health impact of tobacco. As the Director of the Kentucky Tobacco Research & Development Center, I also manage the Center for Tobacco Reference Products. Since 1968, the University of Kentucky has provided reference cigarettes used as the standard for non-clinical investigational purposes by tobacco manufacturers, contract and government laboratories and academic institutions for tobacco and health research.
