Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The University of Kentucky International Center (UKIC) proposes to host a workshop for student advisors and other administrative personnel, from higher education institutions throughout Kentucky and the surrounding region, on the topic of best practices in recruiting, advising, facilitating and supporting potential student applicants in pursuit of Gilman Scholarships or Critical Language Scholarships, both of which are administered by the Institute for International Education (IIE) on behalf of the US Department of State’s Bureau of Education and Cultural Affairs (USDOS/ECA). Both programs are aimed at providing learning abroad and second language acquisition opportunities for student demographics which are typically underrepresented in such pursuits, including first generation college students, minority students, students with disabilities, and students majoring in STEM disciplines. UKIC will work closely with the director of UK’s office of Nationally Competitive Awards, as well as with IIE and USDOS/ECA personnel in developing content and delivering this one-day workshop.
