Description
This is a healthy homes technical study with a focus on using a holistic approach to improve
indoor cockroach control, and thus mitigate a critical source of asthma inducing indoor allergens.
This project incorporates (1) a thorough evaluation of barriers (poor request for pest control
proposals, untested products, poor sanitation) to successful cockroach management, (2) an
experimental survey of residents to determine their willingness to adopt novel strategies that can
reduce pest pressure indoors, and (3) an expanded evaluation of a quick, easy, and affordable
cockroach management strategy using liquid baits. This project’s comprehensive approach
integrating both pest and human elements will allow our findings to have maximum impact,
moving us closer to eliminating cockroaches from affordable housing.
