"A Genealogy ofAddiction: Stimulants in Early Modem Europe" is a book project that assesses the ways in which Euiropeans wrestled with their growing dependence on habit-fonning commodities. An ACLS FelloFship would enable me to complete two separate research components ofthis long-term project during the summer of2012: first, travel to Paris to examine early modem printed books in; the national library ofFrance, the Biblioteque nationale de France (BNF), and second, time off #om teaching in order to research English language sources on two databases ofearly modem priljlted books from England: Early English Books Online (EEBO), and Eighteenth-Century CollectioIlts Online (ECCO).
