A Photo Orthorectification System for Small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The proposed project combines the challenge of developing a sophisticated, computer-controlled system with the excitement of flight. The technical goals of the project are to develop several enabling technologies for autonomous light unmanned aircraft and to integrate those technologies in to a complete system. The design is based around an automated photo Orthorectification system to generate composite images from a series of aerial photographs. To test the results of the effort, the students will compete in the Fifth Annual AUVSI Student UA V Competition in June 2007. This project will build on the success of the University of Kentucky 2005 and 2006 AUVIS teams. Each year the contest becomes more challenging and the level of competition from he international field of schools increases. We hope to apply the lessons learned in the first two years of competition to place even higher this third year.
