The goal is to examine the development of science achievement of middle school students from psychological and sociological perspectives, with a further research focus on critical educational issues facing the Chinese society, such as education equality. The goal is to inform the evaluation framework and the instrument development in large-scale student assessment, with a focus on improvement of the quality of evaluation in science education.
