Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Our subcontract from Research Triangle Institute (RTI) will determine the ability of tobacco constituents provided by RTI to release dopamine in nucleus accumbens shell from adolescent and adult rats. Effects of the tobacco constituents will be compared to dopamine release evoked by nicotine. We will use in vivo microdialysis to evaluate dopamine release in the terminal region of the midbrain cell bodies (ventral tegmental area). High performance liquid chromatography with electrochemical detection will be used to detect dopamine in the samples.
