Description
The Graham is a digital health tool that integrates a hardware system and a mobile application developed through a feedback-driven process with the equestrian community. The Graham evaluates balance, reaction time, and decision-making in various conditions to provide an objective, quantitative measurement to enhance athlete training, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport decision-making. The hardware utilizes wearable sensors and novel camera firmware to track movement patterns, analyze trends in performance parameters, and compare real-time data to past performances, offering valuable insights through a future app interface. The hardware is easy to set up and take down with a telescopic frame, making it manageable to transport from locations. This design ensures continuous monitoring and training regardless of where athletes or clinicians might need to be for competition or training. Combining real-time data collection with a portable, user-friendly design, The Graham empowers athletes and clinicians with actionable insights previously only accessible in specialized labs.
The current funding from the Mid-South REACH Cycle 1 is accelerating the refinement of data reliability, ease of use through user-driven development, and the foundation for HIPAA compliance, ensuring a secure and scalable system. Our next developmental steps include launching a beta app, diversifying the ability to run diverse tests, creating basic customizable features, and continuing to receive user feedback on The Graham. Throughout development, we continue to interact in a user-feedback loop, ensuring the system''s usability meets our future customers'' needs. Although initially developed for equestrians, these two cycles of funding from the Mid-South REACH Hub provide a strong foundation for an adaptable product to grow into other sports and occupations. By incorporating customizable testing protocols and options for light and camera placement within the hardware, The Graham will be adaptable for diverse uses while maintaining the ability to capture balance, reaction time, and decision-making parameters quickly and reliably. Enhancing adaptability for a broader range of users positions The Graham as a more versatile digital tool and strengthens its commercialization potential.
Unlike traditional clinic-based rehabilitation tools, The Graham extends training and rehabilitation beyond the clinic, allowing users to recover and improve performance on their terms. Additionally, while current decision-making tools that help clinicians and care teams determine an athlete''s readiness to return to sport can be subjective, expensive, or lack portability, The Graham integrates these elements into a single, cost-effective system that provides objective real-time data. In collaboration with the University of Kentucky''s Office of Technology Commercialization, we are continuously working to protect our intellectual property through copyrights and a potential patent. We are positioning The
Graham as an essential tool for athletes, care teams, and clinicians to transform training, rehabilitation, and return-to-sport decision-making across multiple domains.
