Administrative Supplement: Neurobiology of CNS Injury and Repair

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Abstract The NINDS R25/T32 Biennial Workshop, "Sustaining a Neural Network: Fostering an Inclusive Research Culture," is the continuation of a series of NINDS-sponsored workshops designed for Principal Investigators of R25 and T32 programs. Previous workshops included “Strengthening a Neural Network: Pathways for Institutional Change Regarding Diversity and Inclusion” in 2017, “Activating a Neural Network: Admission Strategies to Increase Diverse Neuroscience Trainees” in 2019, and “Maintaining a Neural Network: Transforming Mentorship” in 2022. Dr. Saatman, as PI of T32NS077889 attended and was an invited speaker at the 2017 workshop and attended the 2022 workshop. Thus, her attendance at the 2024 workshop to be held in Bethesda, MD provides continuity for the University of Kentucky predoctoral T32 training program on the Neurobiology of CNS Injury and Repair. This year’s workshop will focus on identifying barriers to and implementing effective strategies for enhancing a culture of inclusivity within our research labs and classrooms. In addition, developing a broader perspective on inclusivity has the potential to positively impact aspects of T32, R25, Departmental and Center-wide strategic planning, hiring, scientific meeting and seminar planning, and design of career development opportunities.
