Agent Training for the Development of a Program in Farm Transitions

The proposed program is designed to provide agents the training and support they need to finish the design of and implement a program in farm transitions. Farms are always in transition - from one generation to the next, from one owner to another and from one use to another. The way that these transitions occur, and especially the extent to which they are planned, have significant consequences on both farmers and on land use, and the next generation of farmers. The training will lead to pilot multi-county, farmer focused programs in the fall and winter of 2008/09. These programs will utilize resources from the training and bring in other resources (including legal, tax and estate planning experts) to conduct a three part training (personal meetings with trained agents, multi-county clientele meetings and a regional summit).
