Alcohol and Dysfunctional Skeletal Muscle Mass: Implications in Aging

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Abstract As a co-investigator in this proposal (Louisiana State University Health Science Center, PI: Liz Simon, PhD), I will aid in the design, interpretation and analysis of experimental data. I will leverage my expertise in study of matrisome turnover and in vitro primary muscle progenitor cell culture in the current proposal. I will also aid in the analysis and interpretation of digital microscope images, participating in quantification of various tissue resident stem cells known to facilitate skeletal muscle extracellular matrix (ECM) remodeling. I will participate in monthly investigator meetings and generation of manuscripts. In addition, I will travel to Louisiana State University Health Science Center once for an in-person team meeting. My contributions in the analysis of ECM remodeling and human primary cell culture enables us to define the effect(s) of alcohol use on dysregulated ECM turnover and myogenic capacity in older adults.
