Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The requested AMS dates for the Sapelo Mission Period Archaeological Project will be used to investigate the formation history and temporal relationships of the many circular shell middens that dot the area north of Sapelo Island Shell Ring II. We intend to select items for dating that can inform us about very narrow time frames or specific events such as sooted sherds. Our ultimate goal is to determine whether temporally significant microstyles in Late Prehistoric pottery exist on Sapelo, as they do elsewhere in eastern North America.
