ARS/SCA: Do More Legumes in Fescue Pastures Affect C Sequestration after Renovation?

  • Coyne, Mark (PI)

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

We expect to provide peer-reviewed research articles and extension publications that indicate the degree to which renovated pastures sequester C, the potential contribution of fixed N to the fertility of renovated pastures, and the influence of slope position on amounts of sequestration. The estimate of N input from fixation has immediate implications for fertilization costs in pasture management while data on sequestration is applicable to refining the Soil Carbon Index (SCI), which will allow natural resource professionals to better estimate and value the degree of soil C storage for farmers in the southeast.
