Asian Longhorned Beetle (ALB) Outreach in Kentucky

Grants and Contracts Details

With the signs and symptoms of the beetle, as well as the beetle itself, being quite easy to identify, and with the latest find of ALB being so close to Kentucky, we need to implement an outreach program to educate the public. Public awareness has played an essential role in cities where ALB has been eradicated, such as Chicago. The initial find of Emerald Ash Borer (EAB) in Kentucky was due to a homeowner call to our office. The homeowner had picked up some outreach materials we had developed showing the signs and symptoms of EAB and he recognized that his trees were infested; therefore, we are certainly convinced about the importance of public outreach when searching for invasive pests in the state.
