Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This proposed on-farm research grant will help cattle farmers to implement bale grazing in the Upper South: identification of barriers to implementation and quantify the impacts (both positive and negative). Bale grazing is a winter hay feeding system where bales are set out on pasture in late fall or early winter, and rationed out for feeding much like rotational grazing. Preliminary results from this proposed project would be used to more fully and rigorously evaluate bale grazing in the future. Simple, practical bale grazing systems that can be readily implemented are needed to get around the fear of pugging pastures. This proposed on-farm grant will five farmer cooperators implement bale grazing systems and quantify impacts on these five farms.
