Grants and Contracts Details
Description
Field studies and geochronology by UK graduate students in the eastern Great Smoky Mountains over the past decade identified the oldest Grenville basement rocks in the southern Blue Ridge. Bedrock mapping and U-Pb zircon geochronology will determine the extent of the oldest basement gneisses, other Grenville orthogneisses, and Ocoee metasedimentary cover rocks outside the type area in the Dellwood quadrangle, which is the next quadrangle immediately to the north of the proposed map area. The proposed mapping will cover the north half of the Hazelwood 7.5 min. quadrangle.
