Description
The Department of Agriculture recognizes the need for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) disease surveillance,
educational outreach, and diagnostic availability for cattle producers in Kentucky. The Department of Agriculture, in order to
ensure compliance with KRS 257.020 has determined the importance of a testing program to detect and eradicate Bovine
Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) in Kentucky. The University of Kentucky Livestock Disease Diagnostic Center is available
and qualified to conduct such testing for Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE). The Department of Agriculture has
received a grant of federal funds from the United States Department of Agriculture?s Animal and Plant Health Inspection
Service, Veterinary Services to enhance the Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy (BSE) program activities. KRS 246.055
authorizes the Commissioner of the Department of Agriculture to receive and distribute such federal funds.
