Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The proposed work is to complete a front-end engineering design study (FEED) to design and install the
University of Kentucky (UK) solvent-agnostic low-cost CO2 capture system (CCS) (current technology
readiness level (TRL) 6) to the LG&E Cane Run #7 (CR7) natural gas combined cycle (NGCC) power
generation unit at 2018$49.0/tonne CO2, 95% CO2 capture, and a regeneration energy of 1060 Btu/lb
CO2. CR7 is located in an economically and environmentally distressed region in urban Louisville, KY
and deployment of the proposed technology will create high-paying clean energy jobs. Long duration CO2
storage along the Ohio River corridor will be explored including short-term transportation by barge.
