Collaborative Research to Advance Solid State Ion Conductors for Emerging Batteries

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Working with Sandia researchers, UK researchers will utilize the state-of-the-art expertise in multiscale mechanical characterization to evaluate the properties of newly developed bulk ceramic and ceramic/polymer composites, including, for example, elastic modulus, hardness, fracture toughness, and viscoelasticity or viscoplasticity. Tests shall include both bulk material tests as well as local mechanical properties, such as those affected by grain boundaries, surface depth, or crystallographic orientation. These measurements will help the development of solid-state ion conductors for advanced batteries.
