Grants and Contracts Details

Description

We have proposed four new or continuing projects focusing on special populations. First, Enhancing Tobacco Treatment in Community Mental Health Centers aims to 1) provide tobacco treatment specialist training for providers within the CMHCfs; 2) assist the 14 CMHCfs in KY to develop a tobacco control plan; and 3) develop web]based training materials for providers that simulate brief evidence]based tobacco treatment interactions with patients in the hospital and community settings. Second, Tailoring Tobacco Treatment for the LGBT Community will a) identify modifiable factors that predict successful smoking cessation among LGBT individuals using the WHY registry, an existing dataset, and b) determine the acceptability and efficacy of a pilot tobacco treatment intervention in LGBT friendly spaces. Third, the Ecigarette Youth Prevention, Education, and Empowerment Program will a) implement and evaluate an evidence]based youth e]cigarette peer]to]peer prevention, education, and empowerment program, b) build capacity for prevention and education among youth and young adults, teachers, administrators, and other health advocates via coordination of a youth and young adult advisory group and professional development training, and c) conduct surveillance of existing tobacco prevention, education, and empowerment programs in Kentucky schools. Lastly, the Increasing Access to Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training project aims to provide 10 Tobacco Treatment Specialist Training Tuition Scholarships with preference given to tobacco control specialists in local health departments and health professionals in areas of Kentucky without tobacco treatment specialists or who will serve diverse and special population groups.
