Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The purpose of this agreement, between the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources
Conservation Service (NRCS) and the University of Kentucky is to sponsor the American Society of Animal
Science (ASAS) annual meeting and a Conservations Connections symposium at the meeting. The ASAS
Chief Executive Officer, Meghan Wulster-Radcliffe at University of Kentucky oversees the ASAS annual
meeting and sponsorships. The purpose of the sponsorship and symposium is to bring together
researchers, practitioners, and policymakers in a forum to showcase recent technologic advances in
livestock management with promise for innovation in practices that address climate change and natural
resource concerns. The sponsorship will provide an opportunity to share information on NRCS
conservation programs and practices, with the potential to reach approximately 10,000 animal scientists
and industry practitioners from the United States and Canada.
Objectives can be in narrative or list form.
The objectives of the annual meeting sponsorship are to:
Highlight NRCS conservation programs and practices by distributing information materials at an
exhibit booth during the annual meeting (includes two full meeting registrations).
? Expand participation by NRCS staff with two additional meeting registrations.
Obtain greater visibility for the agency’s role in conservation and animal feed management
practices with recognition from the podium at the ASAS opening session
? Retain event naming rights at the meeting
Increase familiarity with NRCS among the animal science community by appearing in the meeting
app and online program
Increase awareness of NRCS through signage at the ASAS meeting and banner ads on the online
program
Obtain relevant collaborator contact information from a full post-meeting attendee list
? Drive traffic to the NRCS website with an NRCS listing (and link to the NRCS website) on the ASAS
meeting website
Increase circulation of NRCS information throughout North America with listings and recognition
in the American Society of Animal Science Taking Stock and the Canadian Society of Animal
Science Matters publications
Increase collaboration between NRCS and the scientific community on feed management by
convening a symposium, Conservation Connections, with several panels to discuss various
scientific advances and practical applications. The first panel will highlight recent innovations in
feed management to address climate change. The second panel will address NRCS conservation
planning and practices related to livestock and climate change. The third panel will explore what
is critical to ensure that producers effectively harness conservation technologies. This symposium
will provide a forum for discussion of feed and animal management practices related to
addressing natural resource concerns and climate change.
