Grants and Contracts Details
Description
It is our intent to form an industry-govern ment-academic consortium which shares the common goal of
eliminating current and emerging environmental problems that are attributed to emissions from coal-fired
electric power plants. Specifically, the mission of the Consortium will be to identify, develop, and
demonstrate practical technologies for reducing C02 and other air-borne emissions associated with
coal-derived power production. The consortium will initially focus on reducing such emissions from
Kentucky's existing and aging fleet of coal-fired electric power plants in order to extend the useful lifetime
of these plants. Over time, the Consortium will redirect its efforts toward mitigating potential emissions
from newer, advanced generation technologies such as supercritical pulverized coal combustion and
Integrated Gasification Combined Cycle (IGCC) plants. The requested funds from the State will be used
to leverage additional funding from private industry.
