Core Violence and Injury Prevention Program

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The overarching purpose of the project described in this proposal is to improve the capacity of all agencies in the state of Kentucky involved in violence and injury prevention. The KVIPP will continue to develop, implement, and evaluate effective surveillance programs and utilize best practice prevention and policy strategies to reduce the burden of violence and injury in our four priority areas. We will accomplish this through the continued development and implementation of our state injury prevention plan which will include: „h Enhance VIPP infrastructure by building capacity at the state and local level for violence and injury prevention by expanding our KY Safety and Prevention Alignment Network (KSPAN). This will be accomplished by securing additional organizational agreements (MOU) with key stakeholders (i.e. ECHV & CBCAP) and creating a Terms of Reference document to better define the roles and responsibilities of our ICPG (KSPAN). KSPAN will continue its promotion and support for local communities to develop and build safety coalitions (i.e. Safe Communities). „h KVIPP staff will annually engage in workforce development to build our capacity and demonstrate core competencies of injury and violence prevention. „h Kentucky¡¦s VIPP plans to continually improve the evidence base for supporting violence and injury prevention program and policy strategies. „h Creation of a policy subcommittee within the ICPG (KSPAN) which will be involved in all phases of planning, supporting and evaluating program and policy interventions. „h Establishing a process for the annual review, synthesis, and dissemination of data and information from core data sets and any available materials derived from them. Where possible, comparisons of Kentucky to the rest of the United States will be made and county level data will be made available to communities for comparison within in KY. „h Systematically inventorying injury prevention and control programs, data, and resources within the state, and developing a web site to make this information easily accessible. The objective of these activities is to foster coordination and collaboration among agencies doing injury prevention and control activities in Kentucky. „h Create and implement a detailed, stage based evaluation plan to measure program process, effectiveness and impact of the Kentucky Violence and Injury Prevention Program (KVIPP) and ICPG (KSPAN) member organizations activities. The plan will outline a process for an ongoing evaluation of KVIPP status in the Five Component Areas of a Model State Violence and Injury Prevention Program. „h In addition, we plan to do evaluations of violence and injury prevention programs and policy strategies.
