Coulomb Corrections for Accelerator Neutrinos Making use of Soft-Collinear Effective Theory (SCET)

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The proposal focuses on Coulomb-enhanced radiative corrections to neutrino processes, where the small QED fine structure constant alpha∼1/137 is partly compensated by large nuclear charge Z. The first topic considers Coulomb corrections at accelerator neutrino energies and involves soft-collinear effective theory, expanding at large energy in powers of Λ/E, where Λ denotes a hadronic energy scale and E denotes the neutrino energy. The second topic considers Coulomb corrections for beta decay processes and reactor antineutrino flux predictions and involves heavy particle effective theory expanding at small energy in powers of E/Λ. These topics have important phenomenological applications and involve modern effective field theory techniques.
