County-Level Analysis of Behavioral Risk Factor Surveillance System Data

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This project includes the following tasks: 1. For those KY-BRFSS questions with an adequate number of responses (i.e. that the "yes" results are not so rare as to give unstable prevalence rates) UK will compute the three year average rates for all the counties (individual for those deemed appropriate, and "peer county" estimates for others), using the methodology developed in Stage I of this project. Where variables in Attachment A are not asked annually on KY-BRFSS, estimates will be computed if two or more years of data are available. Using the three most recent years (2013-2015) of available KY-BRFSS data, UK will provide prevalence estimates with 95% confidence intervals for the health behaviors and conditions listed in Attachment A, for each the following geographic areas of Kentucky: • Counties • County groups (as developed in 2013 contract) • Health department districts, and single-county health departments with sufficient BRFSS respondents to produce stable prevalence estimates • Area Development Districts (ADDs) • State-wide 2. Using the three most recent years (2013-2015) of available KY-BRFSS data, UK will produce prevalence estimates with 95%confidence intervals for a KY-BRFSS report on disability status and incorporate the health behaviors and conditions listed in Attachment A. Sub-state estimates will only be produced for questions with an adequate number of responses. UK will collaborate with the Foundation and KDPH to produce a report on these findings as part of a series of reports on health disparities in the Commonwealth. UK will review and edit the reports on KY-BRFSS findings which comprise the series of reports on health disparities in the Commonwealth. 3. Using data from the KY-BRFSS (and other data sources, as needed), UK will conduct an epidemiologic analysis on health in Kentucky. The topic of the epidemiologic analysis will be aligned with the mission of the Foundation and approved by the Foundation prior to analysis no later than April 1,2016. The results of the epidemiologic analysis will be disseminated in 2016 through one of the following activities: • Presentation of the research at a professional conference • Submission of a manuscript describing the research to a peer-reviewed academic journal • Other dissemination activity, if pre-approved by the Foundation
