Developing a Prototype Map for Slope Stability Characterization in the Hazard North 7.5-Minute Quadrangle, Eastern Kentucky

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

This project will compile a prototype Generalized Geology for Land-use Planning map with a special emphasis on landslide susceptibility issues for the Hazard North 7.S-minute quadrangle in eastern Kentucky. The primary base for the map will be a preliminary surficial geologic map completed by Wayne Newell in 1978(*). This map will be supplemented with bedrock lithology, mine data, and active landslides noted on a 1979 examination of aerial photography(**) to produce a depiction of ground condition that can be useful for general planning purposes. *Newell, W.L.. 1978, Surficial geologic maps of the Beattyville, Campton, and Hazard North quadrangles.
