Developing Educational Resources for Spanish-Speaking Workers in the KY Green Industry

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Title: Developing Educational Resources for Spanish-Speaking Workers in the KY Green Industry PI: Tara Watkins Abstract The nursery and floriculture greenhouse industry in KY contributes significantly to the local and state economy and is one of the largest segments of KY horticultural product sales. This industry has long since employed H2A seasonal labor as well as Hispanic US citizens in order for their businesses to be successful. With Spanish being the native, and often times only, language of the majority of these employees within the Green Industry, available workplace trainings, notices of invasive pest and diseases, safety standards, and more are needed. This project aims to make more resources available to this Spanish-speaking workforce through the translation of written publications such as fact sheets and pictorial information, as well as demonstrations through video content.
