Developing Solutions to Economic Losses Caused by Slug Feeding in Soybean

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

ABSTRACT: The study will be completed in a commercial and/or research soybean field(s) that has a history of slug or snail abundance in Western Kentucky. Several molluscicides and insecticides will be tested, including. The molluscides baits and insecticides are: 4% metaldehyde (7 and 10 lbs/A), 1% sulfur (Bio-Sul®: 20 lbs/A), 2% metaldehyde & 0.5% sulfur (OrCal-Duo®: 20 lbs/A), the liquid sprayable 25% metaldehyde (Slug-Fest®: 23 and 63 fl oz/A). The insecticides are: abamectin and methomyl. The insecticide rates to be decided. The aims of this study is to compare the efficacy of the vs. molluscicides and to evaluate the potential of these two insecticides to be used as a management tactic to reduce populations of mollusks in soybean fields.
