Development of Community Water Sources

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The proposed activity will provide technical and planning assistance to the Kentucky Infrastructure Authority (KIA) for the identification and evaluation of alternative sources of raw water for areas of Kentucky with inadequate water-supply sources. This includes the identification and study of the water resource potential of underground coal mines, high yield water wells, and springs, the latter being more prevalent in karst terrain. These efforts, as directed by KIA, will be in concert with state and county planners such as the Area Development Districts, and managers of municipal water supplies which, for the most part, are individual cities and county water districts. Specifically proposed work for SFY 2007-08 follows the section on background.
