Description

General Description of Work To Be Performed The KGS will provide technical and planning assistance to the Authority for the identification and evaluation of alternative sources of raw water for future treatment by others in areas of Kentucky with inadequate water supply sources. In particular the work covered in this MOA shall include: . the identification and evaluation of abandoned, underground coal mines for potential water sources; . the interpretation of satellite and aerial photography to identify potential high-yield water wells sources; . and the investigation of watershed characteristics for the development of high-yield springs. In the performance of work pursuant to this Agreement, KGS shall utilize its array of computer software and hardware, tested field evaluation methods, and engaged its trained personnel to the extent necessary and appropriate. Specifically: a) Activities and analyses related to each study-site involving potential use of mine water may vary, but generally shall include working with those communities designated by the Authority that are in need of potable water supplies, travel to those communities to locate deep-mines with water-supply potential, cataloging of available historical data, making field measurements and assessing water-quality parameters, and providing estimations of deepmine storage, discharge, and recharge capabilities. b) Similarly, activities and analyses related to each study-site involving potential development of a high yield well source may vary, but generally shall include working with those communities designated by the Authority that are in need of potable water supplies, review of available related satellite and aerial photography, cataloging of available historical data, travel to locate potential sites, securing appropriate easements or other forms of authorization to develop test wells, supervision of drilling contracts, installation and testing of water wells, and logging.of recharge characteristics.
