Description

Discourse analyses offer an opportunity to observe and study, through a wide variety of methods, complex cognitive/linguistic behaviors in the most naturally occurring and commonly used form of communication. The goal of the current project is to create a unique database of cognitive and discourse data derived from the funded project, R01 AG029476: “Discourse Processing in Healthy Aging”. These data will provide researchers and clinicians critical foundational information for studying memory, attention, and discourse variations across the adult lifespan as well as the interactions between these domains. The objectives of the project are to: 1) prepare datasets for archiving, 2) prepare discourse transcription files for archiving, and, 3) prepare demographic and cognitive data files for archiving in National Archive of Computerized Data on Aging (NACDA). At the University of Kentucky, we will be responsible for preparation of datasets and discourse transcription files, collected at this site, for archiving. We will also collaborate with ASU key personnel in preparing the demographic and cognitive data files for subjects and assist in the development of codebook and methodology guides to accompany the data. We are also responsible for maintaining the necessary forms to complete all aspects for the project as well as maintaining current documents for the Institutional Review Board for human subjects protection.
