Description
The East Central European Scholarship Program (ECESP) was founded to assist emerging
democracies of Eastern Europe in transforming theft post-communist societies and economies. It was
the first education and training program to be funded under the Support for East European
Democracy Act (SEED) of the U.S. Congress. As part of its activity, ECESP assisted the Czech
Republic, Hungary, Poland and Slovakia in their endeavors to achieve the standards required for
integration with Europe. Since 1998, ECESP is active in Albania, Bulgaria, Macedonia and
Romania, with the aim of helping these countries attain similar standards.
This year marks the sixteenth year of ECESP's activity in Eastern Europe. The program has trained
circa 2100 participants since its inception.
