OBJECTIVE: The objective of this study is to instrument, on an l11ulti -span bridge, the bottom hori zontal surface at the base oflhe footing of the pier with five soil pressure cells and temperature gages, and instrument the vel1ical face of the footing and pier with tlu'ee temperature gages each, and to continuously l110nitor the soil pressure and temperatures and compare the soil pressures with ones derived using the AASHTO code.
