Abstract
Emerging vector-borne diseases are a serious threat to public health. Without ongoing continued
surveillance, the Commonwealth will not be able to detect or respond to this emerging infectious
disease threat. The University of Kentucky Entomology Department shall be the primary source for
virology testing and speciation of tick samples collected in Kentucky.
Tick samples shall be tested for a panel of vector-bone diseases as indicated by the sampling
conditions. The panel of tests shall include, Rocky Mountain Spotted Fever, Lyme Disease, and
Ehrlichiosis. The panel of tests may change as new data emerge or as funding changes.
