Description
Evaluation of red crown rot management practices in Kentucky
PI: Carl Bradley
Plan of work:
Red crown rot, caused by the fungus Calonectria ilicicola, was discovered for the first time in
Kentucky in September 2021 in soybean fields in Graves County, KY. The disease has now been
confirmed in three counties in Kentucky (Calloway, Carlisle, and Graves), and has been shown
to reduce soybean yield components by over 50% in Kentucky soybean fields. Currently, little is
known about effective management practices for this disease. Field research to evaluate the
management of red crown rot with fungicide seed treatments and in-furrow fungicide treatments
will be conducted. Results from the trials will be relayed to stakeholders through Extension
outreach activities.
