Description

A literature review will be conducted to detennine the usage of detection technologies by other transportation agencies and experience gained from application of the various types or systems. An effort will be made to catalog the types of detection presently used in Kentucky and to assess their advantages and disadvantages. Specific issues of concern that will be given attention include: pavement condition, resurfacing effects, environmental conditions, shadow effects from buildings, overall costs, and detection capabilities related to motorcycles and bicycles. A document will be prepared at the end of FY 2008 to document the results of the review and summation of detection technologies. Included will be recommendations for application of various technologies based on their characteristics/capabilities/features and the needs of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
