Description
A literature review will be conducted to detennine the usage of
detection technologies by other transportation agencies and experience gained from application of
the various types or systems. An effort will be made to catalog the types of detection presently
used in Kentucky and to assess their advantages and disadvantages. Specific issues of concern
that will be given attention include: pavement condition, resurfacing effects, environmental
conditions, shadow effects from buildings, overall costs, and detection capabilities related to
motorcycles and bicycles. A document will be prepared at the end of FY 2008 to document the
results of the review and summation of detection technologies. Included will be
recommendations for application of various technologies based on their
characteristics/capabilities/features and the needs of the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.
