FRT 159, GFRP Stay-in-Place Form and Reinforced Concrete Overlay

Grants and Contracts Details

The current concrete deck on the bridge Over Sugar Tree Branch on KY3302 in Fleming County, KY (District 9) is in need of replacement. Typically, after removal of the old deck, a new steel reinforced concrete deck will be placed on the bridge with non-structural steel stay-in-place forms. The primary concern with the steel stay-in-place forms is that they rust and may cause deterioration of the deck with time. Glass fiber reinforced polymer (GFRP) stay-in-place forms include the bottom mat reinforcement and do not rust. Consequently, the deck is expected to last for a very long time.
