Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The Transportation Center has been requested to provide Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR) data to verify pavement thicknesses and underlying subsurface conditions, pavement coring to review the conditions of the pavement layers, and Falling Weight Deflectometer (FWD) data to determine the strengths of the various pavement layers.
The general areas to be tested are defined as follows:
I-64 WB from Mellwood Avenue to River Road
I-64 EB from River Rd to Story Avenue
I-71 NB/SB on either side of Frankfort Avenue Bridge
Ramp 18 from SB I-71 to EB I-64
Testing will be completed over as much of these areas as possible based on the ability to establish traffic control. In some instances, these areas may have to be shortened due to the presences of ramps and other traffic control issues. It is anticipate that all of the field work on the project will be completed at night.
The Request for Proposals for the Louisville Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridge (LSIORB) project requires respondents to utilize various forensic evaluations to support any changes in pavement structural design. These changes are submitted to the Cabinet for approval as Innovative Technical Concepts (ITC). To facilitate the development of the ITC’s and to avoid having multiple sets of data collected by the teams, requiring lane closures, the Cabinet has decided to collect the detailed information relating to the in-situ pavement conditions and provide it to the design build teams for their use.
