Description

OBJECTIVES: The objectives for this project are to: 1) detennine the information needed to characterize and locate the wetlands; 2) carry out an inventory of wetlands owned or under the Cabinet's oversight; and 3) detennine the monitoring/preservation mandates and continuing maintenance requirements for each wetland site. BACKGROUND: KYTC has property containing wetlands that were either created or purchased as compensation for other wetland takings (mitigation). After the Corps of Engineers (COE) 5-year mandatory monitoring! preservation period, those wetlands require continued maintenance to prevent problems such as flooding of adjacent properties and mosquito control. Other issues requiring on-going KYTC wetlands management/maintenance include: weir control to maintain proper water levels, beaver activities, fence maintenance, trespass prevention, and vegetation control. Additionally, wetlands have been naturally established along some KYTC rights-of-way as a consequence of the road building. Maintenance activities in those areas are also problematic. FY 2007 PROPOSED WORK: It is anticipated the wetlands infonnation needs will be detennined and that significant progress will be made on inventorying sites owned by the Cabinet. PROGRAMMED COST FY 2007: TOTAL ESTIMATED COST: $ 60,000 $120,000
