FY19 UK Social Studies Modules

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

The University of Kentucky Project Team will develop an online professional learning module en..tled, Getting to Know More about the KAS for Social Studies (G2KMAK4SS). The module will include eight sec..ons addressing important topics/ideas featured in the new standards (e.g., inquiry, equity, civic ac..on, literacy). This module will be available through Digital Driver’s License (DDL), which is hosted on the Open Tools for Instructional Support (OTIS) platform, to facilitate online professional learning that districts can monitor and/or use in conjunction with Professional Learning Communities (PLC) work to enable teachers to create standards-aligned instruction. The Getting to Know More about the KAS for Social Studies (G2KMAK4SS) module is a resource for developing an understanding of the new standards and the new components of the KAS for Social Studies . Educators at the school and district level may feel the need to start aligning programs (curricula, pacing guides, assessments, etc.) to the new standards immediately. Yet, utlizing this module before beginning standards alignment work is recommended in order to build knowledge and capacity around the standards and to capitalize on the opportunity to improve teaching and learning.
