2024 MILITARY TEEN ADVENTURE CAMPS STATEMENT OF WORK - KENTUCKY Camp titles, projected dates, camp descriptions and number of slots available for campers: 1)Red River Gorge Rock Climbing, Rappelling, and Canopy Excursion – Campton, KY.June 14- 17, 2024. Camp for military parents and their teen children including rock climbing and rappelling in the world-famous Red River Gorge and a canopy tour including ziplines at speeds up to 55 MPH soaring 300 feet over the Gorge. Availability: 36 slots (18 parent/child teams). 2)Nantahala River-to-Ridge Excursion – Bryson City, NC; June 21 – 24, 2024. Camp for military parents and their teen children including, ziplining, high and low ropes challenge courses, leap of faith, paintball, canoeing and outdoor cooking. Availability: 58 slots (29 parent/child teams). 3)Ocoee Whitewater Rafting, Climbing, Rappelling and Outdoor Adventure – Ocoee, TN;July 12-15, 2024. Camp for military parents and their teen children including white water rafting, ziplining, rock climbing, mud/water pit challenges and lakeside activities. Availability: 60 slots (30 parent/child teams). In addi??on to comple??ng required evalua??ons, collec??ng required demographic data and submi??ng required reports for this grant, qualita??ve and quan??ta??ve data will be gathered at each camp and will be aggregated and summarized at the end of the camp season. This will help to con??nue learning about needs of military families and determining whether the camps met the intended goals to guide future programming for Purdue University, the University of Kentucky Family and Consumer Sciences Extension, the grant sponsor and all partnering en????es. Findings will con??nue to be shared through in 2024 and beyond. A Research in Brief publica??on from 2019 Kentucky MTAC data/findings was published with the Journal of Extension (Ashurst, Weisenhorn, & Atkinson, 2020). A proposal on our parent-teen camping model was accepted for presenta??on at the Na??onal Council on Family rela??ons 2023 Conference (November 2023).
