FY21 UKRF Teacher Planning-Online Modules

Grants and Contracts Details

Description

Since the Kentucky Academic Standards for Reading and Writing were adopted in 2019, P-12 teachers in Kentucky have had persistent questions related to the implementation of Reading Literature and Informational Text Standards 2 and 5. The University of Kentucky, Department of Curriculum and Instruction is seeking funding to construct two online learning modules to support P-12 teacher planning and implementation of Reading Literature and Informational Text Standards 2 and 5 of the Kentucky Academic Standards for Reading and Writing. The goal of this project is to develop two self-sustaining online modules by June 15, 2020 that will provide P-12 teachers with support as they plan and implement instruction related to these two standards. The objectives of the project include constructing online modules that will provide: (a) explanation of the pedagogical content knowledge and research support underlying Standards 2 and 5; (b) curriculum design tools to assist long-term instructional planning; (c) tools and resources to support instructional planning; (d) video of elementary, middle, and high school teachers teaching sample instructional lessons; and (e) opportunity to reflect on sample instructional lessons. The outcome of this project will be two self-sustaining online modules that P-12 teachers in Kentucky can access from the KDE website to support their instructional planning. Funding in the amount of $113,089 is requested to support this initiative.
