Description
The University of Kentucky College of Public Health shall provide personnel to perform the functions of a Healthcare Associated Infections (HAI) Prevention Program for the Kentucky Department for Public Health (KDPH) and to coordinate the State and Regional Infection Prevention and Epidemiology (K-STRIPE) program. The purpose of Kentucky’s HAI prevention program is to establish an infrastructure within the KDPH to develop statewide activities focused on the prevention of HAIs within healthcare facilities. This will be accomplished through the following activities: build and improve the KDPH workforce for HAI prevention, increase voluntary reporting and HAI surveillance activities using the Centers for Disease Control National Healthcare Safety Network database, develop evidence-based prevention collaboratives, and provide training and other tools needed to support HAI prevention activities in Kentucky acute care hospitals, long-term care facilities, and in other healthcare settings
