Description
The Kentucky Children’s Hospital/University of Kentucky Department of Pediatrics and the Access to Justice Foundation have come together to create Kentucky’s first medical-legal partnership (MLP)-Child Advocacy Today (CAT). The mission of CAT is to bring pediatricians and attorneys together to ensure that families can meet their children’s basic needs for health care, housing, nutrition, education, safety, and stability – some of the building blocks to a child’s health and well-being.
The proposed project will seek to reduce health disparities and increase access to health by expanding the CAT program into three community based clinics and thereby: 1) Provide direct civil legal services to families at or below 200% of the Federal Poverty Level (FLP) who have a civil legal need affecting their child’s health, 2) train medical providers to identify and refer legal needs affecting health, and 3) provide systemic advocacy to improve laws and policies affecting child health.
