Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) proposes to continue Horses and Hope in collaboration with Kentucky’s Horse Industry, Kentucky Women’s Cancer Screening Program, and KCP District Cancer Councils. The goal is to increase breast cancer awareness, provide education, and promote opportunities for screening and early detection.
Uninsured, medically underserved, underinsured and minority women working at race tracks, horse farms, and horse industry venues will be educated about breast cancer and linked to screening resources such as mobile mammography and the Kentucky Women’s Cancer Screening program.
Community events will be held in Appalachian counties with high rates of poverty and breast cancer mortality to educate uninsured, medically underserved, and underinsured women about screening. A special emphasis will be placed on providing information about Affordable Care Act coverage for preventive breast cancer screening. Information will be provided about eligibility for coverage and how to use their insurance to access breast cancer screening.
