Grants and Contracts Details
Description
The Kentucky Cancer Program (KCP) proposes to continue Horses and Hope in collaboration with Kentucky’s First Lady Jane Beshear. The goal is to increase breast cancer awareness, provide education, and promote opportunities for screening and early detection.
Medically underserved, uninsured and minority women working at race tracks, horse farms, and horse industry venues will be educated about breast cancer and linked to screening resources such as mobile mammography and local health departments. KCP will continue to educate race fans and engage survivor champions to promote screening through specially designated Horses and Hope events at thoroughbred race tracks.
In addition, community events will be held in Appalachian counties with high rates of poverty and breast cancer mortality to educate women about screening. Participants attending the events will be recruited to expand the reach by helping educate and link women who are not compliant with screening guidelines to resources in their community.
