Description
The primary objective of the Statistics Core of the KY IDeA Network of Biological Excellence (KBRIN) is to improve scientific rigor and reproducibility of researchers at universities in the KBRIN network by providing statistical support. The specific aims are: (1) Encourage rigor and reproducibility for KBRIN Network investigators by providing expert statistical advice to improve experimental design advice prior to biological experiments and for grant applications. (2) Encourage rigor and reproducibility for KBRIN Network investigators by providing statistical support for paper submissions, paper revisions and posters for KBRIN network investigators throughout Kentucky using the infrastructure of the Applied Statistics Lab (ASL) at the University of Kentucky. (3) Encourage rigor and reproducibility for KBRIN Network investigators by providing statistical training and professional development opportunities for KBRIN investigators and trainees at UK, regional conferences, and by workshops and seminars at each regional university during site visits.. We will continue to utilize unique strategies, via the Applied Statistics Lab, to bring in new regional investigators into the KBRIN network and provide statistical expertise for their research. Some of these endeavors include providing easier access to statistical services through video conferences, on-site visits, and educating investigators about KBRIN statistical resources. ASL faculty, students, and staff have worked, and will work, remotely and in person with the regional investigators to supply expertise in experimental design, statistical analysis, and data management. To facilitate readily available access to KBRIN statistical support, KBRIN personnel from the University of Kentucky will continue their assistance by providing yearly on-site visits to each KBRIN institution for one-on-one meetings with KBRIN supported investigators and lead faculty members. Statistical support for investigators include: statistical analysis, data management, power analysis, sample size calculation, and assistance with statistical sentences in papers and grants. Departmental seminars during on-site visits will educate investigators on experimental design, power calculations, and basic statistical concepts.
