This project will target two of the Tobacco Research and Educational Council's priorities for this funding: improved competitiveness in a global market and a multi-state effort. Specifically, the overall goal of this project is to improve the competitiveness of burley tobacco producers in a global market through the following: 1) providing more detailed analysis on tobacco cost and returns, 2) conducting investment analysis on various tobacco mechanization technologies, 3) evaluating the economic impact of adopting various production technologies, and 4) enhancing available resources on labor education and labor efficiency. This goal will be achieved through a cooperative effort between the University of Kentucky and the University of Tennessee.
